Weight Loss in Perimenopause: Is Keto or Intermittent Fasting Right For You?

Keto Diet, Intermittent Fasting

Do you ever wonder why a certain diet, supplement, or fitness trend seems to work miracles for your friends, yet as hard as you try, you don’t get the same results?

Are you having issues achieving hormone balance despite doing all the “right” things?

Are you afraid you’re doomed by your family’s health issues (diabetes, cholesterol, weight gain….even Alzheimer’s disease) because it’s “just in your genes?”

Do you gobble handfuls of supplements every day without the slightest clue whether your body will actually benefit from them?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, chances are high that you could benefit from knowing more about your genes and how the choices you are making can affect your health.

How Epigenetics Works

You are a product of your DNA and your epigenetics. You are born with a unique DNA or set of genes that you received from your parents. However, other factors come into play that influences those genes as to how or even if they express themselves. These ‘switches’ are called epigenetic tags.

So what decides if epigenetic tags turn on particular genes or not? Your environment is the driving force. The definition of environment, in this case, means “what you eat, drink, breathe, touch, think, believe or perceive to be true.” And this environment is actually what determines how your epigenetic tags operate and therefore your health or lack thereof.

Change Your Habits, Change Your Genes

These are exciting times! We understand more than ever how these choices that we make on a daily basis can create changes in the expression of our DNA, literally changing the way we experience the world. Epigenetic science makes it possible for us to see that just because we are genetically programmed a certain way, it is not our destiny; we have the power to make choices that change the expression of our DNA.

The phrase “it’s in my genes” assumes that we are at the mercy of forces outside of us when it comes to our health. Epigenetic research shows that this is not true! We have great potential to affect how our genes are expressed. In fact, epigenetics suggests that what happens in our bodies and what we pass on to future generations could be very much a result of the food we eat, the air we breathe, the words we speak, and the relationships we have with ourselves and others.

In addition, the signals generated from our perceptions of the world we live in, our cultural conditioning, thoughts, beliefs, prayers, meditations, and intentions have a great influence on our inner environment. Epigenetic research is actually finding that the act of meditation, particularly mindfulness meditation, has numerous health and stress-reducing benefits. These include lowered inflammation, maintenance of telomere length, and a possible reduction in cancer risk.

This area of science is continuing to unfold and more study is needed before we can clearly understand what is possible in the area of epigenetics, but it is clear that, with proper guidance and coaching, dramatic changes in health are possible. Interpretation of your genetic code requires expert help. While many direct-to-consumer “interpretation” sites exist, they provide limited information in most areas of health and they don’t tell you the steps to take to impact your genetics. A trained professional is able to tease out the nuances of how different genes work together to help you create a plan for optimal health.

Want to learn more about YOUR genes and health? I am now offering a program called Genetic Mastery. I’ll send you a cheek swab gene testing kit, interpret your genetics, and create custom reports using your data in the areas of nutrition, sleep, metabolism, stress, detoxification, supplementation, and hormones. Then, I’ll create a personalized plan to help you create your best health and performance. Concerned about the privacy of your info? The company I use DOES NOT save any of your data once it is reported out.
